setting:

One of the most significant characteristics of this play is that it mostly takes place within the Younger apartment, witht the exception of some instances where Walter is seen drinking. The only reason that the reader comes in contact with any other character not part of the Younger family is because they appear only in the apartment. The apartment is where everything develops. It is where Mama tries to teach the importance of family, where Bennie denies Walter as her brother and where everyone's dream is revealed at one point or another.

Segregation
This play is set in the era of segregation of where African Americans were brutally punished at daily bases. Racial Segregation is one of the most historical events that American society had to go through difficult times and the struggle for survival. American history today educates us about the African American culture and their point of view about the segregation time period. The ambition that African Americans mostly aimed for was for freedom.
